About Adidas

Founded in 1949 by Adolf Dassler, also known as Adi, Adidas transcends its status as a mere clothing and sporting goods brand. Its history reflects the pioneering spirit and boundless determination of its founder, who gave birth to a revolutionary company in the worlds of fashion and sport.

The name "Adidas" has its origins in the fusion of Adolf Dassler's nickname, "Adi," and the first syllable of his last name. Ironically, Adolf Dassler had to compete with his own brother, Rudolf Dassler, founder of the rival brand Puma, in a context of fierce competition within the emerging sporting goods industry.

Despite the obstacles encountered, Adidas managed to recover, notably with the acquisition of the company in 1990 by Bernard Tapie. Under his leadership, Adidas returned to profitability before being acquired by Robert Louis-Dreyfus in 1993. This acquisition marked the beginning of a new era of growth for Adidas, which was consolidated in 2005 with the acquisition of its competitor, Reebok.

Today, Adidas is not only one of the most iconic brands worldwide, but also one of the undisputed European leaders in the sporting goods sector.
